If only the motivation to stay committed to a goal, long or short-term, was sold in a jar and available to the public, our community would probably be very advanced and efficient right now. But, alas it isn’t, and we as goal-oriented humans have to figure out how to reach a goal creating our own kind of motivation.
Why is it so hard to stay committed to a goal? Why do we fail to “stick to it” when we know that the rewards are very fruitful for our life, health, or wealth?
When you make excuses like, “I’m too tired” or “Ugh, it is SO much work!” then you are setting yourself up for failure. You have to be able to get your mindset out of being negative, and have an optimistic attitude about completing the tasks necessary to reach your goal. Here are some creative ideas to help you stay committed:
Create a slogan, and post it above your bed and on your refrigerator. Sometimes, simply seeing “I can do this. I will do this. I have to do this.” every morning when you wake up can be a great kick for the day.Become religious with routine by creating certain things to do on certain days. For instance, every Monday you can commit yourself to reconnecting with people you know will be great contacts, strengthening your network. Creating rituals will create habits.Write, not type, out your goals and the tasks you need to complete to reach them. The act of writing something down helps your mind not only remember the task, but also help you stay just a little more committed to completing what you wrote down.Remove “I can’t” from your vocabulary, and make it a rule in the household. Obviously, there are going to be situations where you should say “I can’t” like in “I can’t have anymore dessert,” but simply removing something negative and consistently thinking about it, trains yourself to keep positive, and think about certain consequences if you did not complete a certain task.Set alarms or reminders on your phone. It’s an audible and visual prompt for you to stay committed to your overall goal. Sometimes, I create multiple reminders for the same tasks!
These are just a few examples of little things you can do to keep yourself committed to your goals. Share this post with your friends, and get their feedback on what they do to stay committed and motivated!
